I always enjoyed receiving photo Christmas cards from Lisa, that showed a wonderful happy family.

My stitching friend and I were members of an on-line stitching group, going back to 2000, that Lisa was also a member of. We were a small group that all shared the love of stitching. I came across it when I was getting yesterday's project out. This is It's Here We Go A Haunting by Shepherd's Bush. I bought it last fall during the annual Shop Hop in September. I loved the box, but thought it was a little pricey, but I couldn't pass it up with the discount that each shop gives during the event. The picture really doesn't do the box justice. The fabric is a fabulous "blotchy" (for lack of a better term) linen too.
If I had planned on stitching this when I was pulling out projects, I would have sorted the threads then. I'm not sure how much stitching I will get done, because figuring out the colors will probably take most of my stitching time today. I love the fall colors though!

I can't believe that tomorrow is the last day of new starts. I'm going to stick with one of the projects that I had planned on for tomorrow. It's a freebie pattern, that goes with the book The Mitten by Jan Brett. Pam, had sent this to me for Christmas a couple years ago. My daughter loves the book, but I never got around to stitching the chart. The photo doesn't show the fabulous sparkle on the linen.

I help in my daughter's Kindergarten class on Wednesdays. Yesterday, while I was there, the teacher read The Mitten to the class for the third day in a row. The class is learning how to "retell a story, without having to read the book to someone", and they're learning the difference between a fiction and a non-fiction book. Kindergarten is so different than when I was in Kindergarten. I know that I didn't learn the difference between fiction and non-fiction when I was five-years-old. Jan Brett happens to be the favorite author of daughter's teacher. The month of February, the class is having an author study on Jan Brett. Again, I know that I didn't have an author study in Kindergarten. I'd like to have the project finished, so my daughter can share it with the class when they read The Mitten again next month.

I did find my skein of Weeks Dye Works Monkey Grass yesterday. I'd given up hope, and had planned on picking another up at my LNS later this week, if I could find the time to run into that side of town, so I was glad to find it.

It's hard for me to believe that it's already day 13 out of 15. I'm looking forward to next week, when I might actually have a couple of finishes to show!

Day 12...

I wish that I had today as a "me" day. This is also the project that I've wanted to stitch for a while, but for some reason, am always short one thread. And, it's always the same thread each time. Has anyone seen a skein of Weeks Dye Works Monkey Grass laying around? I know that I've specifically bought a skein of it on my last two trips to my LNS, but somehow, they're disappearing. Way too cute! I can't wait to have this one finished, because the colors are just popping off the fabric. And, it's another one that I can finish-finish when the stitching is done since I'd bought the Stitch-A-Gift banner for it when I bought the chart. I didn't realize how many of the banners that I'd bought until I started picking projects out for this challenge.

I took a couple pictures of the projects that I started at the end of last week - which are some of my favorites. First, is Lizzie Kate's Jolly Holiday.

Not the best photo. The white lines going through the design don't show up the best.

My next project is Country Cottage Needleworks' Joyful Summer. I really should have stitched this one sooner. I can't wait to get back to this one. I'd like to get all of the leaves and stems stitched before my monthly craft club meets next week, since it would be easy to fill in the leaves while talking. More talking goes on each month than stitching, but it's a great "girls night out".

Be back tomorrow with another start!

Day 9...

More than half way there. Here's Bent Creek's Noel.

It's the perfect day to work on Noel. A few years ago, I stitched at least 12 ornaments during the year, but somehow I fell off that wagon. I'm planning on having 12 new ornaments hanging on my Christmas year in 2011. My first ornament was an easy choice - Lizzie Kate's Last Minute December Kit. The stack on the right hand side are just some of the supplies for #2 of my challenge - 12 Christmas ornaments. I went through my stash and chose mainly kits, so I wouldn't need to buy a lot for the projects. I had the fabric for all of the charts that didn't have it included, and I just needed to buy a few threads for those projects. Two of the projects I'd already bought the hanging banners for, but never got around to stitch.
My project for today is one that I've had for a number of years - And To All A Good Night by Blackbird Designs. I already can't wait to have this finished and hanging in my home. (I tried uploading a photo of it, but blogger keeps rotating it, and it's driving me crazy! I'm one of the crazy stitchers that have signed up for the challenge. 15 new projects to stitch..what could be better....or crazier?!?! I've been making a list of which 15 projects will make the cut. I've decided on the one big project that I will start on January 1st. It's one that I've had for years, and have loved since the first (and only) time that I saw it stitched up. There are only about 257 projects vying for the other 14 project spots.

I'll be back with pictures of my two latest finishes tomorrow.

Happy Stitching!!!

October Check-In

Since the month is almost over, I figured it was a good time to post an update to the list of books on my challenge list. I've been doing much more cross stitching this month than reading, so my list of finished books is rather small.

Books read:

A Toast to Murder by Michele Scott
The Quick and the Thread by Amanda Lee
Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks

I've been reading Dirty Rotten Tendrils by Kate Collins while my daughter is in dance class, so even though I love the book it's taking longer than normal to finish. All things that mean fall to me! I've joined Fall Into Reading 2010 hosted by Callapidder Days. I'm so excited! I'm always up to a challenge, and one that involves books is even better. I love the adult summer reading program my library offers each year, and this seems like the perfect way to spend the fall. My fall challenge lists consists of the books that I didn't get to this summer and books that have just been published or will be soon.

My list of books for the challenge:

Cozy Mysteries:

A Toast to Murder - Michele Scott
Stirring Up Strife - Jennifer Stanley
Maid of Murder - Amanda Flower
The Quick and the Thread - Amanda Lee
Candy Apple Dead - Sammi Carter
Tressed to Kill - Lila Dare
A Killer Plot - Ellery Adams
Dead Air - Mary Kennedy
I Scream, You Scream - Wendy Lyn Watson
Murder with All the Trimmings - Elaine Viets
The Fashion Hounds Murder - Elaine Viets
The Diva Cooks a Goose - Krista Davis (pre-ordered)
Dirty Rotten Tendrils - Kate Collins (pre-ordered)

Other:

Here Today, Gone to Maui - Carol Snow
Wicked Appetite - Janet Evanovich
The Quilter's Legacy - Jennifer Chiaverini
Safe Haven - Nicholas Sparks
Naked Heat - Richard Castle (pre-ordered, comes out next week)
Every Last One - Anna Quindlen

My Kindle is ready to go!!

The only other challenge that I'm going to make is to not purchase any more books until I've read five off this list. My book buying has been quite rampant the last few months, and I really need to cross a few off my TBR pile before I add more to it. That will probably be the hardest part of the challenge for me.

The End Of Summer....

Labor Day weekend...the end of summer. Major changes will be happening at our house this week. My darling daughter will be starting school on Tuesday. I'm use to having a little shadow all day long. I'm sure it will take longer for me to adjust to school than it does for her.

I'm choosing to look on the bright side. My day will start earlier and since it will be just me around the house, I'll have much more time to stitch and read. I'm really hoping to get my stitching mojo back - big time. I use to stitch 10-12 projects every month, and that hasn't happened since my daughter was born.

I'm going to be taking a look at the projects that I have listed on my sidebar. I'm thinking that there will be some changes. Even though I haven't been stitching a lot the last few years, I've still been making purchases as though I was. My stitching room is overflowing with projects just waiting to be next in line.

My first project(s) will be a few Christmas ornaments. I picked up the latest JCS ornament issue on Friday. Not much jumped out at me, but there are a few that have been added to my stitching list.

Here's to a busy, fun filled fall season!!!

March Finish/April Goals/Major Catching Up

March Finish:

Life's A Picnic - Lizzie Kate

Goals for April:

Finish Green Eggs - Lizzie Kate
Continue working on The Library - LHN
Stitch a Christmas ornament
Read 4 books

I joined a reading challenge of reading at least 6 cozy mysteries between April 1 and September 30. I picked up a birthday gift and new clothes for DD. Can't resist the Gymboree store, even when I try. Too many cute things!

This evening, I spent some time stitching. I'm 1/3 done with the ornament that I started. Should be an easy finish for tomorrow. It's a kit that I bought last week. I ordered fabric to stitch the rest of the series, but it hasn't arrived yet. I'm hoping that it's in the mail tomorrow. I think they're going to stitch up fast, so it would be nice to get a couple more stitched this month. I'm sure there won't be time for a finisher to get them in, so they can hang on the tree this year but there's always next year.

Looking forward to some major stitching time tomorrow!!!

Thursday...

We spent the majority of today in Ohio at a funeral. But, I'm making myself finish at least one UFO before starting anything new. The only exception is my goal of stitching a Christmas ornament this month. I ordered (it arrived in the mail yesterday)JBW Designs' Christmas Tree Kit. I'm planning on stitching the entire series, but for this month, I'm going to have the goal of stitching the kit that they released at market this past fall. I also received the charts for the entire series, and have the fabric on order. I'm planning on making a trip to my LNS to pick up the fibers that I need for them at some point this week.

This is my first week of having actual free time while my DD is at preschool. The past month and a half, I've had physical and/or occupational therapy during the time she's at school. I'm looking forward to having a couple hours of having a quiet house to myself. Hopefully, it will prove to be great stitching time for me!

Tomorrow, I'm planning on posting a picture of my one lone finish for last month. My blog is about stitching, and I did very little stitching all summer long. It was definitely the summer of the book. It's been years since I've read so many books, but it felt wonderful. I think I got more into reading because I received a Kindle for a Mother's Day gift from my wonderful DH and DD.

Anyway, now that fall is here, I'm back to stitching. I have a few things on the go. I started Ida Mae Crow, and love every stitch of it. And, since I can't stitch on just one project at a time, I'm going to start a new one. I'd planned on starting the first in the Little House Needleworks' Once Upon A Time series, Dream, but my fabric isn't big enough to stitch the three designs separately like I plan on doing. I ordered new fabric, along with a few other things last night. In the mean time, I think I'll start LHN's Pumpkins that a dear friend sent to me all kitted up. The colors are such yummy fall colors.

I'm thinking of joining NaBloPoMo for the month of November. Since I'm stitching again, I think I might even have something to talk about.

Stay tuned for the month of November...I think it's going to be a great stitching month!!!

The Summer of the Book

This summer is shaping up to be a reading summer instead of a stitching summer. I haven't picked up a needle much at all the last couple of months. But, I've read a ton of books. My district library is sponsoring an Adult Summer Reading Program, and I joined on the opening day, June 1st. I read 11 books in June and I'm up to 9 for July, at this point. Needless to say, I won the June drawing for my library branch. I'm really hoping that other adults joined this summer, but in our little town, that might be wishful thinking.

Here's the list of books that I read in June:

Murder She Wrote: Gin and Daggers - Jessica Fletcher/Donald Bain
A Rose from the Dead - Kate Collins
Shoots to Kill - Kate Collins
Evil in Carnations - Kate Collins
Foul Play - Janet Evanovich
The Cracked Pot - Melissa Glazer
Eggs in Purgatory - Laura Childs
Thanksgiving - Janet Evanovich
Sisters - Danielle Steel
Death in Daytime - Eileen Davidson
Finger Lickin’ Fifteen - Janet Evanovich
Dial Emmy for Murder - Eileen Davidson

I loved the books in the Flower Shop series (Kate Collins), I'm not sure why I got behind in reading them. I really enjoyed the Soap Opera series (Eileen Davidson), and I'm already looking forward to the next release. I was a little disappointed in the Melissa Glazer book (2nd in the series) and the Murder, She Wrote book. The MSW book is the first in the series, so I'm planning on giving another book in the series a chance, but it will be a later one this time around. I've read all of the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich, so I've been reading some of her earlier books. They're fast reads, with a lot more romance than mystery to them, but I've liked all of them.

Hopefully, I'll be back with a stitching finish or two before the summer is over.

April Finishes...May Goals...

April was much more of a reading month than a stitching month. It feels like it just started a few days ago, but in truth it's ending in just a couple short days. I don't feel like I've gotten much accomplished. I spent close to two weeks following doctor's orders of doing "nothing", so I'm sure that is the cause.

I do have a couple of finishes for this month that I'll post tomorrow. Lately, we've been losing power on a regular basis (thunderstorms), so I've put off doing too much with uploading pictures.

I'll be back at some point tomorrow...with pictures!!

February Finishes & March Goals

My February finishes:

Little Women Series: Baking - Little House Needleworks
Seasonal Sampler Zipper - Bent Creek
A Chicky Easter - Lizzie Kate

WIP:

Photobooth Snowmen - Bent Creek

Books Read:

Murder of a Snake in the Grass - Denise Swanson

Goals for March:

Finish Photobooth Snowmen
Stitch two Christmas ornaments
Stitch one project from my list on the sidebar
Read two books

Looking over my goals for February, I did 3 of the 4. I stitched LHN's Baking, and stitched an older Bent Creek Zipper from my stash. I have all of the Zippers, from years ago, but haven't stitched very many of them. And, I did read the fourth book in the Scumble River series.

I haven't bought much of the new market releases, at least compared to previous years. But, of what I bought, I was able to stitch one of the kits, the Lizzie Kate project, the week after it arrived and have started Photobooth Snowmen. Usually, at least it seems like it, I buy a ton of new market releases and then only stitch a few of them - months later.

January Finishes...February Goals...

My stitching finishes for January:

Be Jolly/Be Blox - Lizzie Kate
Thanksgiving Sampler - Heart In Hand

Books read during January:

Thai Die - Monica Ferris
Plum Spooky - Janet Evanovich
Murder of a Small-Town Honey - Denise Swanson
Murder of a Sweet Old Lady - Denise Swanson
Murder of a Sleeping Beauty - Denise Swanson

My goals for February:

Stitch Little Women Series: Baking - Little House Needleworks
Stitch Be Merry/Be Blox - Lizzie Kate
Anything from my stitching stash
Continue reading the Scumble River mystery series by Denise Swanson

As my lists show, January was much more a reading month than it was stitching month. As much as I love the Christmas decorations, it's always nice to have a clean house at the beginning of the year.

With the new year, comes new goals. My goals are pretty simple this year. I want to stitch more from my stash, and try to keep the new purchases to a minimum. I'm sure this will only last until market in February, but at least I have a couple gift certificates to my LNS to use when the new things arrive.

As far as stitching project totals go, my goal is 30 projects this year including 12 Christmas ornaments. I also have some reading goals this year too. I have a huge pile of books just waiting to be read. My goal is to read 24 books during 2009. That's only 2 books a month, which should be doable. As far as knitting goals go, I'm going to keep it small this year. I'd love to have 3 new pair of socks to wear by the time fall rolls around. As much as I enjoy knitting socks, I really love to cross stitch. My craft room is packed with stitching projects, many of which are already kitted up and ready to go. 2009 is the year to start making a dent in them.

I also plan on getting back to posting on the Let's Stitch Blog on Friday nights. Even if I only have a few hours to stitching, instead of the six that it runs for, it will help with my yearly goals.

Until next time...hopefully with the first 2009 finish to show!

Friday Night WIP

I'm working on Little House Needleworks' The Sampler Lady. In less than a week, I finished 3 projects. Yeah, me! I finished Heart In Hand's Thanksgiving, Lizzie Kate's Fall Squared and Little House Needleworks' Strawberry House. I still need to take pictures of them, but that's on the agenda for later this week.

Yesterday, I started Little House Needleworks' The Sampler Lady. I only had a couple of hours of stitching time last night, but was pleased with what I accomplished. I stitched the alphabet, the flowers and leaves that are on her skirt. I started filling in the skirt this morning. I love how this piece is turning out. I'm picturing this finished as a flat-fold, so it can sit on a shelf in my stitching room.

I don't have much on my schedule for the rest of the week, so I'm hoping for a lot of progress on it. It's suppose to cool off and be rainy, so it's perfect stitching weather!!!

October Goals

My goals for October:

Finish Heart In Hand's Thanksgiving
Finish Little House Needleworks' Strawberry House
Continue working on LHN SAL - Little House Neighborhood
Stitch 2 Christmas ornaments

The month of September totally got away from me, and I didn't finish a single project.
